


The Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Exzilda Broda, age 96 of Sauk Rapids, formerly of Opole, will be 11:00 AM Friday, October 18 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Opole. Father John Paul Knopik will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. There will be a visitation from 4-8:00 PM Thursday evening and again after 10:00 AM Friday at the church. Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish prayers will be at 5:00 PM with the Christian Mothers praying at 7:00 PM Thursday at the church. Arrangements are being made by the Miller-Carlin Funeral Home in Holdingford.Exzilda was born March 2, 1917 in North Prairie to Paul and Johanna (Wirwitzker) Cekalla. She grew up in North Prairie and married Joseph Broda on October 25, 1938 in Holy Cross Catholic Church. The couple lived in Opole where they owned and operated the Broda General Store for over 25 years. Exzilda was well known for her coffee cakes and as a caterer for weddings in the area. She also planned dances in Holdingford, as a fund raiser for the March of Dimes for many years. She was very active in her church and she prayed the Rosary for over 50 years. Exzilda was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Christian Mothers.Exzilda is survived by her son and daughter; James (Karen) Broda, Sauk Rapids and JoAnn (Andrew) Heinen, Rice. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph in 1996, and her brothers and sister, James Cekalla, Raymond Cekalla and Bernice Fedor.

To the family and friends of E.Broda. We don’t know each other personally, but I wanted to let you know that I am deeply sorry for your lost. It is a tragedy to lose a loved one in death. I know that she will be deeply missed. However, I would like to share something with you that might offer some comfort. The Bible mentions that not only will God help you through this situation, but it also helps us to appreciate that we will have the opportunity to see our lost loved ones again. Read Psalms 34:18 and also John 5:28,29.
