Age: 89
October 11, 1927 – October 13, 2016
Ann Marie Doll Didier passed away peacefully on October 13, 2016, after a struggle with lung cancer.
She was born on October 11, 1927 in Richmond, MN to John Joseph Doll and Elizabeth Marie (Mehr) Doll. After early education in Richmond, she attended high school with the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls. On June 7, 1949, she married Alexander D. Didier in Richmond, and when Alex’s employment opportunities required a move out of state, she courageously followed him, moving from her familiar hometown with small children. Over the years, she guided the family through the frequent moves necessitated by Alex’s work, making packing up and starting over look (almost) easy. But as her thick stack of address books attests, Ann built new friendships wherever she went, and her skill and energy meant that a welcoming home was put together and her daughters settled into school within a few days in any new place. Ann loved entertaining her friends and teasing her family with her trademark wry humor – and she never missed a game of bridge if she could help it. She was intellectually curious, whether she was studying to become a real estate broker, brushing up her native Stearns County German, traveling, figuring out a sewing pattern or exploring the new cities she inhabited. She enjoyed volunteering, including her later work with the American Red Cross. But her family was her focus: a call for help caring for grandchildren was never left unanswered, and a request for company by a travelling family member was likely successful.
Ann is survived by her children: Mary (Dan) Brazys and Jean Didier (Neil Franz); grandchildren Sam (Jamie) Brazys, Julia Franz, Madeline Franz and great-granddaughter Luisne Brazys; brother James (Berni) Doll, sister Beth Doll (Scott Sargent), sister-in-law: Carol Doll, and brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Ann Didier; as well as other relatives and friends. Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Alex, parents, brother Denis, sisters Delphine Marie and Eugenia, and many brothers- and sisters-in-law.
Her family wishes to express appreciation to the caregivers who helped Ann in her last months; Quiet Oaks Hospice Care, St Croix Hospice and Assumption Court.
And in her way, Ann instilled her family with her characteristic sense of adventure – they’re flung across three continents right now, thinking of her. Please join us to celebrate Ann’s life at a memorial service and Mass at Saint Augustine Church, 442 2nd St SE, St. Cloud, MN on December 16, 2016. Family and friends may gather at 10am: Mass will be at 11 a.m.
