Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Arthur M. Viehauser, 94, of Holdingford, will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 4, 2015 at Church of All Saints – St. Mary Catholic Church in Holdingford. Father David Grundman will officiate and burial will take place in the parish cemetery. Arthur passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning with family by his side at the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany. There will be a visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of service Monday at the church. Arrangements are being made with Miller-Carlin Funeral Home, Holdingford.
Arthur was born on Feb. 12, 1921 to George and Amalia (Solinger) Viehauser in Holdingford. He grew up with his siblings and graduated from the local high school. Arthur served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945 and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands during WWII. He married Elizabeth “Betty” Schneider on June 11, 1947 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Holdingford. Arthur worked in the Red Owl Store, then drove Redi-Mix truck for McGarry Bros. and 20 years for Granite City Redi-mix, retiring in 1991. Art and Mark would drive to McDonald’ s almost every morning for breakfast. Art loved blue martins and was in competition with his neighbors who would get the first martin. He enjoyed tinkering with engines and loved the great outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. At age 92 he shot a large deer with his crossbow. Arthur was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and member of the American Legion and Holdingford VFW Post 642.
Arthur is survived by his children Carol (Don) Wenderski, Avon; Michael (Diane) Viehauser, Pillager, David Viehauser, Holdingford; Mark Viehauser, Holdingford; Ken Viehauser, Albany; Jim (Susan) Viehauser, Avon; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren (with one on-the-way); and two great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty Jean on June 19, 2012, his brothers Leonard, Clarence, Ralph, and Leo, his sister Florence, and two stillborn babies.
The family would like to thank the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home staff for their kind and loving care of Arthur.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
