Barbara M. Wenker

Age: 88 September 16, 1923 – November 25, 2011 Mass of Christian burial celebrating the life of Barbara Mary Wenker, age 88, of Freeport will be 11AM, Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport.  Father Roger Klassen, O.S.B. will officiate, and burial will take place in the parish cemetery following the service.  Barbara died peacefully in her sleep Friday morning surrounded by her family at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany.  There will be a visitation from 4-8 PM, Monday, November 28th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and from 10 AM until the the time of the service Tuesday again at the church.  Parish prayers will take place at 5PM followed by Christian Mothers praying the rosary at 6 at the church Monday evening.  Arrangements are being made with the Miller-Carlin Brenny Funeral Home of Albany.Barbara was born September 16, 1923 in New Munich to John and Elizabeth (Bloch) Funk.  She married Joseph John Wenker on June 17, 1947  in New Munich.  The couple lived their entire lives in the Freeport area.  Barb was a loving mother and home maker raising her seven children.  She also worked as a cook at Sacred Heart School.  She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW, the Christian Mothers, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Freeport where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and Sacristan.Barbara is survived by her children Mary (Charles) Platt, Batavia, NY; Dennis (Janice) Wenker, Woodbury; Carol (David) Jones, Eden Prairie; Joseph (Kristen) Wenker, Maple Grove; Margaret (Randy) Nelson, Rochester; Alan (Laurie) Wenker, White Bear Township; her brothers Norbert Funk, New Munich; George (Rosie) Funk, New Munich; her 14 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.She is preceded in death by her mother and her father Elizabeth and John Funk, her husband Joseph Wenker who passed away in 1999, her son Bernard John Wenker, and her siblings Henry Funk, Edward Funk, Sister Clement Funk O.S.B., Anton Funk, and her infant sister Ann Funk.
