Doris Wentland

Age: 93 January 17, 1916 – October 11, 2009 Doris Wentland, 93, of Holdingford died October 11, 2009 at St. Gabriels Hospital, Little Falls, of complications from pneumonia.  She had been a resident at several nursing homes for the past 1-½ years and had been cared for at home by her loving husband Leo for the past 20 years after suffering a stroke.Doris Alta (Gardner) Wentland was born on January 17, 1916 near Stewartville, MN.  She graduated from Stewartville High School in 1934 and then attended Business College in Winona, MN and the University of Minnesota.  Doris worked as an executive secretary at Rochester Transfer and the Kahler Corporation.  She was the personal medical secretary for Dr. Code at the Medical Sciences at the Mayo Clinic.  Doris was the state champion typist for 5 years, at 150 words per minute.  She married Leo J. Wentland on May 26,1964.  While they lived in Golden Valley, MN, she worked in Minneapolis at Piper, Jaffray & Hopwood as a personal secretary for Mrs. Piper.  After moving to Holdingford to the Wentland family farm, Doris and Leo farmed, raised cattle and ran an electrical contracting business.  Doris enjoyed gardening and did much caning of her produce.Her husband, Leo Wentland, her sister Phyllis Aronson, and many nieces and nephews survive Doris.  Her parents, George and Alta Gardner, and two brothers, Chester and George, preceded her in death.A visitation will be held at Miller-Carlin Funeral Home in Holdingford on Wednesday, October 14 from 4-9 pm.  There will be a visitation at Maken Funeral Home in Rochester on Thursday, October 15 from 4-9 pm.  A service will be held at Maken Funeral Home in Rochester at 11 an on Friday, October 16.   Burial will be at the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Rochester.
