Mass of Christian burial celebrating the life of Elmer Charles Dahl, age 84 of St. Cloud, will be at 11 AM on Nov. 25, 2013, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Father Tom Knoblach will officiate and burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery with full military honors following the service. Elmer died peacefully at the St. Cloud Hospital with his family at his side after a long, courageous battle with cancer. There will be a visitation held from 4-8 PM Sunday, Nov. 24, at the Miller-Carlin Funeral Home in St. Cloud, and again from 10 AM until the time of the service Monday morning at the church. Parish prayers will take place at 5 PM on Sunday at the funeral home.Elmer was born Oct. 16, 1929, in St. Cloud to Carlot and Ann (Westphal) Dahl. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 during the Korean War. Following his military service, he married the love of his life, Beatrice Paggen, on Sept. 3, 1956, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waite Park. Elmer lived in St. Cloud for nearly all of his life, where he worked and helped raise four children. He was employed by Boeing Aircraft, Great Northern Railroad, and B & B Oil Company, before retiring from Zapp Bank. However, Elmer most enjoyed working in his own garage restoring antique cars. He was a founding member of the Pantowners St. Cloud Antique Auto Club, in addition to many other automotive organizations. Elmer was also a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, the Waite Park Legion, and a lifetime member of the East Side VFW. Elmer will always be remembered for his generosity, loyalty, creativity, and quick wit.Elmer is survived by his wife Beatrice “Poo” Dahl, St. Cloud; his children Jim (Dayna) Dahl, Clear Lake; Jean Dahl, Frankfort, KY; Jay (Sue Boom) Dahl, St. Cloud; Jody (Andy) Frye, Minneapolis; his grandchildren Aubrey (Curtis Brown), Eric, Corey, Sondra, Rachel, Ben, Aidan, and Adysen; his great-grandchildren Emersyn and Lauren; and his sisters Jean Eilers, Silver Spring, MD; and Florence “Bunny” “Tekla” Johnson, Blaine.He is preceded in death by his parents Carlot and Ann Dahl, his sisters Eileen Jurek and Dottie Sax, and his granddaughter Hannah Frye.
