Mass of Christian burial celebrating the life of Gertrude “Daisy” E. Forster will be 11 AM
Wednesday December 1, 2010 at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Albany. Father Michael
Naughton will officiate, Deacon Rick Scherping will co-officiate, and burial will take place in the
parish cemetery following the service. Gertrude died peacfully Sunday morning at Mother of
Mercy Nursing Home in Albany. Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM on Tuesday, November 30,
2010 at the Miller-Carlin Brenny Funeral Home in Albany, and again from 10-11 AM on
Wednesday at the funeral home. Parish prayers will take place at the funeral home at 4:30 PM
followed by the Christian Mothers and St Anne’s Society praying the rosary at 5 PM on Tuesday.
Arrangements are being made with the Miller-Carlin Brenny Funeral Home in Albany.Gertrude was born April 1, 1916 in Freeport to John and Katherine (Verkinnes) Scherping. She
married Roman Joseph Forster Sr. on May 16, 1939 in Freeport. The couple lived in the Albany
area their entire lives. Besides being a loving mother and home-maker, Gertrude worked for the
Albany Hospital in the cleaning department for 7 years, cared for Dr. F.H. Baumgartners children
for 16 years, and cooked for the Albany Church Bazaar and Albany Golf Course Mens League.
Gertrude was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, St, Anne’s Society, Christian Women,
and the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home Auxiliary.Gertrude was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her faith was a great part of her life and she had a spectacular sense of humor. She greatly enjoyed playing cards. She was the last survivor of the Scherping-Forster family.Gertrude is survived by her children, Lorraine (Gerald J.) Zenzen, Avon; Kathy Maloney,
Paynesville; Pat (Ron) Toenies, Freeport; and Roman (Bernie) Forster Jr; her 13 grandchildren,
and 20 3/4 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.She is preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband Roman who passed away on
November 23, 1981, and her daughter Leona Altenhofen, her son-in-law Vern Altenhofen, and
her grandchildren Greg, Mark, and Lisa Zenzen. She is also preceded in death by her brothers
Leonard, Gerard, Gotthard, Ambrose, and Edward, and her sisters Bernadina, Pauline, Helen, and
infants Antonius and Alphonse.
