Johann Jacob Beckmann

Age: 94 September 13, 1921 – October 22, 2015 Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Johann J. Beckmann, age 94, of Saint Joseph, will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 26, 2015 at the St. John’s the Baptist Parish Center in St. Joseph.  Father Gregory Miller, OSB will officiate and a luncheon will follow.  Johann passed away peacefully at home Thursday afternoon with his loving wife and family at his side.  There will be a visitation for family and friends after 9:30 AM until the time of the service Monday morning at the parish center.  Arrangements are being entrusted to Miller-Carlin Funeral Home, Albany. Johann was born in Sevelen, Germany on September 13, 1921 to Herman and Katrina (Blix) Beckmann.  He was raised alongside three siblings and graduated high school before joining the German military.  In 1940, Johann met the woman who would become his wife.  On February 13, 1947, Johann married Julia Zimmermann and their union was blessed with five children.  In November of 1956, Johann, Julia, and their first four children emigrated to the United States.  Following family ties and German heritage, they made their home in central MN where he continued farming.  Johann was a good, gentle man devoted to his family.  He was a hard and dedicated worker who was inventive and made due with what he had.  Johann read a lot and enjoyed a variety of genres, but he was especially fond of history books.  He discussed what he read and passed many stories on to his children.  His family remembers Johann as the “best person in the world.” Johann is survived by his wife of 68 years, Julia, St. Joseph; his children Maria Danna, Princeton; Irene (Craig) Richie, Fargo; John (Peggy) Beckmann, St. Joseph; Irma Lanier, St. Joseph; David (Rebecca) Beckmann, Wynona; nine grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and many others. He is greeted in Heaven by his parents Herman and Katrina, his siblings Heinrich, Willi, and Margrete Hermann, and his son-in-law Joseph Danna.
