Mildred E. Schmidt

Age: 82 June 17, 1930 – August 09, 2012 Mass of Christian burial celebrating the life of Mildred E. Schmidt, age 82 of St. Cloud will be 10:30AM, Saturday, August 11, 2012 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud.  Father Alan Wielinski will officiate, and burial will take place at St. Luke’s Cemetery in Clearwater following the service and luncheon.  Mildred died peacefully Thursday morning at Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Augusta surrounded by her family.  There will be a visitation at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud from 4-8PM, Friday, August 10, 2012 and again from 9:30AM until the time of service Saturday morning.  Parish prayers will be at 6PM Friday evening at the church.  Arrangements are being made with the Miller-Carlin Funeral Home in St. Cloud.Mildred E. Schmidt (formerly known as Sister Gerard and later Sister Mildred of St. Paul’s Monastery, Maplewood) was born in 1930 to John and Theresa (Tennis) Schmidt in Easton, MN.  Mildred graduated from Shakopee High School, and then joined the Benedictine community in St. Paul in 1948.  She graduated from St. Catherine’s College in St. Paul and St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri.  She taught at Maternity of Mary and St. Bernard’s Schools in St. Paul, St. Anne’s and Visitation Schools in Minneapolis, St. Victoria School in Victoria, MN, and Hill Murray High School in Maplewood.  In 1974, she left the religious community and became Religious Education coordinator at various parishes in the Archdiocese of St. Paul/Minneapolis.  Later Mildred worked for ten years for the State of Minnesota and the State Patrol Office and Gambling Control Board.  After retirement from State employment, she worked part time for Northwest Title and Escrow in Vadnais Heights and after moving to St. Cloud, at EMR Innovations.  She fully retired in April of 2007.  After retirement, Mildred volunteered for a number of different programs at St. Paul’s Parish and sewing for the St. Cloud Hospice program.  Mildred is a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud.Mildred is survived by her five sisters Jean (Jack) Weber, St. Cloud; Alma (Allen) Dahlin, Avon; Alice Heid, St Cloud; Inez (John) Williams, Anaheim, CA; Ardella Benson, Prior Lake; two sisters-in-law LaVerne Schmidt, Maple Lake; and Verna Schmidt, Sleepy Eye;  45 nieces and nephews, and numerous great nieces and nephews.She is preceded in death by her parents John and Theresa Schmidt, her brothers John and Lester Schmidt, and her sister Joyce Graham, as well as three brothers-in-law Bob Graham, Don Benson, and Ron Heid.Memorials are preferred to Quiet Oaks Hospice House.
