Age: 86 December 15, 1923 – June 23, 2010 Norbert “Slim” Raymond SmithOpoleDecember 15, 1923-June 23, 2010Mass of Christian burial, celebrating the life of, Norbert “Slim” Raymond Smith, age 86, of Opole will be Saturday June 26, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Opole.  Friends may call before the service beginning at 10:00 AM.  Father Gregory Ombak will officiate and burial will take place in the parish cemetery.  Slim died peacefully at St Benedict’s Senior Center Wednesday morning surrounded by family.  Arrangements were made with the Miller-Carlin Brenny Funeral Home of Holdingford.Slim was born December 15, 1923 in Avon to Barbara (Knoblach) and John Smith.  He grew up in Avon and then lived in the Opole area his entire life.  He married Esther Rudolph on May 11, 1948 in Opole.  The couple lived on the farm that they owned and operated for many years.  Slim also ran a flax straw baling crew in the Dakotas from 1962-1970.  He was always known for his exceptional talent for baler repair.  He owned and operated Slim’s Baler repair for many years.  He greatly enjoyed custom combining and Ag-bagging.  He went into business with his son Scott where they continued to farm and started Smith Skidloaders.  One of Slim’s greatest enjoyments in life was working on the farm.  He especially enjoyed his time working with his son Scott.  Slim was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.Slim is survived by his wife Esther Smith (Opole), his children Charlette June (James) Kalla, Avon; Scott (Julie) Smith, Holdingford; and his four grandchildren Heather Smith, Brent Smith, Amanda Kalla, and Becky Kalla.  He is also survived by his sisters Alice Phlipsen, Avon; Irene Lohn-Steiner, Spicer; and Janet Morin, Belgrade.He is preceded by his brothers and sisters Ernest Smith, John Smith II, Fred Smith, adopted brother Eugene Nagel, Mae Tibesar, Bernice Neeser, Adeline Rausch, Ceil Wolf, Susan Roth, and Pauline Thienes.
