Mass of Christian burial celebrating the life of Bob Smith will be April 3, 2023, at 11:00 am at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in St. Wendel Burial to follow after the service, visitation will be one hour before services. Arrangements are being made with Miller-Carlin Funeral Homes.

Robert “Bob” Smith, age 79, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at the Hennepin County Medical Center.

Bob was born on August 13, 1943, in St. Cloud, MN to the late Ernest and Theresa (Kulig) Smith. Bob at the Saint Cloud Hospital. He grew up on a farm in St. Wendel, Minnesota. Bob was born with special needs and attended school at District #4 for 8 years. He moved to Minneapolis when he was hired to work at Opportunity Workshop in Minnetonka which is specifically designed for those with special needs. He worked at Opportunity Workshop for over 25 years where he was very proud of his achievements. He lived in several different group homes in Minneapolis and in 2015 he moved to Catholic Elder Care.

Bob was a social butterfly and he made friends everywhere he went. He attended St. Stephen Catholic Church and enjoyed attending the Saturday religious education classes that were specifically geared toward those with special needs. His favorite time of the year is when they put on the annual Christmas pageant at the church that his family attended. He loved spending time with family and friends and always looked forward to holiday celebrations. Bob was a part of the St. Columbkille Catholic Church in St. Wendel.

Bob leaves behind his brother and sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” Turck (Tim), Sauk Rapids; Ron (Kathleen) Smith, St. Joseph; and Donna Paggen, St. Joseph. He also leaves behind 9 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Theresa (Kulige) Smith and brother-in-law, Dave Paggen, and his nephew Jeremiah Pierson.
