Robert “Bob” H. Atherton

Age: 78 March 27, 1933 – July 14, 2011 Funeral services celebrating the life of Robert “Bob” H. Atherton will be 11 AM, Monday, July 18, 2011 at the Miller-Carlin Funeral Chapel in St. Cloud.  Reverend Jim Towler will officiate, and burial will take place at Northstar Cemetery following the service.  Bob died early Thursday morning at the St. Cloud Hospital.  Friends may call from 4-8 PM Sunday, July 17, 2011 at the Miller-Carlin Funeral Home in St. Cloud and again from 10AM until the time of the service on Monday.  Arrangements are being made with the Miller-Carlin Funeral Home in St. Cloud.Robert was born March 27, 1933 in Wheaton, MN to Cliffton and Laura (Terpena) Atherton.  He moved to St Cloud to attend college.  While attending college, he met his soon to be wife Shirley.  The couple was married on August 23, 1958 at St. Mary’s Cathedral Church in St. Cloud.  Bob was a very active and dedicated citizen and worker.  He was a member of S.M.W.I.A, served as vice president of the A.F.L.C.I.O., a chairman of the Metropolitan Advisory Council to the St. Cloud Area Council of Governments, was a member of the Board of Directors of the Central Minnesota Group Health Plan, and was the Business Agent for Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 10.  He also was instrumental in restoring the Paramount Theater and creating the Beaver Trail in St. Cloud.Bob is survived by his children Lisa (Kenneth) Chicoine, N.C.; Bryan (Nancy) Atherton, Kimball; his sister Adabelle Atherton, Jamestown N.D.; his grandchildren Rhiannon Chicoine, Brandy Chicoine, Joelle Chicoine, Kendra Atherton, Denzel Atherton, and his great-grandchildren Alyssa and Chase.He is preceded in death by his parents Cliffton and Laura Atherton, and his wife Shirley Atherton who passed away January 25, 2004.
