She grew up milking cows and working on the farm with her 12 brothers and sisters. At a young age, she had polio and was home schooled, but did finish 8th grade at St. Joseph Catholic School. She remembered splitting wood, milking cows, and doing homework under the kerosene lamp at the big dining room table.Rose married Sylvester Michalski on June 9, 1948 in St. Joseph Catholic Church. The wedding lasted for two days and several kegs of beer; she and Sylvester honeymooned in Blackduck. Rose raised eight wonderful children on a 40 acre farm near Clearwater. The children remember cleaning the chicken barn, feeding 32,000 chickens, and butchering any rooster that was not supposed to be part of the future laying pullets. Rose ran the Jack Frost barn for 12 years before moving to Annandale. She lived in Annandale with Sylvester for 5 years before the moved to “the lake”. Lake Mille Lacs was home for many years where the kids remember swimming, fishing, and jet skiing on the big lake. Rose always enjoyed cooking for the family, baking, and was known as a great cook. Her daughters always continued to call and ask for recipes or exactly how to make a certain dish. For 10 years, Rose and her husband enjoyed their second home in Okeechobee, Florida. In addition to traveling to Florida annually for the winter, they visited the Grand Ole Oprey in Nashville and loved the Bar-D-Wranglers in Colorado. Rose would listen to old county western tunes anytime.Rose is remembered for her love of family. She loved each of her eight children unconditionally. In her home there was always lots of laughter, fun, and kidding. She had enthusiasm for life, learning, and laughter passed the gifts of caring, morals, hard work, and enjoying each day to the fullest.Rose is survived by her eight loving children Judy (Claude “Bud”) Michalski-Deering, Durango, CO; Mike (Sue) Michalski, Clearwater; Jane (Cleve) Johnston, Rice; Susan Burgess, St. Cloud; Jo Ann (George Schill) Repke; Clearwater; Sharon (James) Michalski-Lukach, Rice; Sandy (Mike) Zwilling, St. Cloud; Scott (Lori) Michalski, South Haven; her 12 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren; and her sisters Joanie Wruck, St. Cloud; and Hildegard Schneider, Sauk Rapids. She is preceded in death by her parents Leopold and Margaret Donabauer, her husband Sylvester Michalski who passed on September 15, 2007, her brothers Herman, Ben, Al, Dan, Val, Gilbert “Gib”, Florian “Timmy” and Leo Donabauer, and her sisters Gilberta “Bertha” Klein, and Othalia “Tillie” Locken.
