Shirley J. (Wiff) Schutt, 93, passed away on October 31, 2018, at her home in Sartell, Minnesota.
A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Country Manor Chapel in Sartell, with Chaplain Adam Sohre and Rev. Kenneth Ferber officiating. Visitation will take place an hour prior to the service at the chapel. Burial will take place at the Kerkhoven Cemetery, Kerkhoven, Minnesota.
Shirley was born on August 14, 1925 to Carl C. and Jennie E. (Martin) Wiff in Martell, Wisconsin, and was the oldest of five children. She graduated from Ellsworth High Schooland went on to receivedegrees in English, History, Music and Library Science from the University of Wisconsin, River Falls in 1946. She began teaching high school English in Kerkhoven in 1947. It was there she met her husband, Russell, and theywere married in 1952. They made their home in Kerkhovenwhere they owned and operated Schutt’sKerkhoven Shopping Center for many years before moving to Sartell, Minnesota in 2013.
Shirley loved music and was an accomplished pianist and organist, serving as her church organist for over 60 years. She was a bird watcher and a gardener, tending beautiful English-style gardens around her house. Her culinary and baking skills were appreciated by many. She and Russell enjoyed traveling around the US and internationally. While her greatest love was her family, she was most dedicated to her church and was an active member of the Kerkhoven Presbyterian Church until it disbanded in 2015.
Shirley will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 66 years, Russell of Sartell; daughters Julie (Salvador) Cruz of St. Cloud and Laurie (James) Nelson of Spicer; sons John (Kim) Schutt of Hutchinson and Thomas (Michelle) Schutt of Willmar;grandchildren Joshua Monson, Spicer; Nicholas (Samantha West) Monson, New London; Benjamin (Tena) Monson, Minneapolis; Ryan Nelson, Willmar; Rachael (Matthew) Edenbaum, Washington DC; Abby (Matthew Beckman) Schutt, St. Louis Park; Hans (Brianna Frisch) Schutt, St. Paul; and Haley (Aaron) Kobes, St. Paul; one great grandchild (with two more expected shortly); and her brothers Charles (Barbara)Wiffof Spring Valley, Wisconsin and Thomas (Bette) Wiff of Balsam Lake, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Callie Schutt; and her sisters Susan Slaikeu and Ellen Bohlman.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Comfort Keepers, Country Manor, and St. Croix Hospice for the genuine loving care provided to Shirley.
