The Mass of Christian Burial, celebrating the life of Sylverster (Syl) Luethmers, age 80, of
Freeport, will be 11:00 AM Monday, November 1, 2010 at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in
rural Albany. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. His nephew, Fr. Tim Baltes will officiate. Syl
died Thursday at the St. Michael’s Nursing Home in Sauk Center. There will be a visitation from
4-8:00 PM Sunday, October 31, at the Miller-Carlin-Brenny Funeral Home in Albany and again
after 10:00 AM Monday at the church in St. Anthony. Parish prayers will be at the funeral home at 4:30 PM.
Syl was born June 19, 1930 in St. Anthony to John and Mary (Ostendorf) Luethmers. He was
born, lived and worked on the same family farm all of his life. He married Alice Buerman on
September 1, 1953 in Farming. The couple farmed together and raised their seven children. Syl
was a former Supervisor for Krain Township, a member of the Albany Knights of Columbus,
where he was a former Grand Knight; he was a member of the Holy Name Society and the
Catholic Aid Society. Syl was very active in the St. Anthony Church, where he has been a
member of the church choir since he was young and he was also a Eucharistic Minister.Syl is survived by his wife, Alice, Freeport; his daughter, Jean (Michael) Renneker, Freeport; his
six sons; Richard (Laurie) Luethmers, Avon; Kenneth (Kathy) Luethmers, Albany; Joseph
(Andrea) Luethmers, Windsor, CO; Wayne (MaryJo) Luethmers, Prior Lake; Paul (Tammy)
Luethmers, Albany; and Alan (Kathleen) Luethmers, Albany. He is also survived by his sister,
Alma Gruber, Belgrade, brother, Melvin (Ortrude) Luethmers, St. Cloud, 17 grandchildren and 6
great-grandchildren.Syl is preceded in death by his parents, his granddaughter, Nicole Luethmers, his brothers, Al
Luethmers, Norbert Luethmers, Edward Luethmers, his sisters, Lydia Althaus, Mildred Lange and
Genevieve Luethmers.
