Viola “Vi” Richards

Age: 66 July 13, 1943 – November 02, 2009 July 13, 1943- November 2, 2009St. Cloud, MNServices, celebrating the life of Viola (Vi) Richards, age 66 of St. Cloud will be Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 11:00 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2719 3rd St. North in St. Cloud.  Vi died on November 2, 2009 at the St. Cloud Hospital after a courageous battle with leukemia.  Burial will be in North Star Cemetery. A Gathering of family and friends for a celebration of her life and a time for sharing will take place from 4-8 PM  Wednesday at the Miller-Carlin Funeral Home and again after 10:00 AM on Thursday at the church.  There will be a prayer service with the Reverend Robert Weber, and a “Country Farewell Party” from 5-7 pm with Vi’s requested music.  “You know this is the last party I will be having with all of you.”The youngest of nine children, Viola was born on July 13, 1943, in St. Cloud, to Raymond and Carolina (Lena)(Wagner) Richards, where she lived her entire life, worked and raised her son as a single parent. She graduated from St. Cloud Technical High School in 1961. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.  VI began her employment in 1961 as bookkeeper at the St. Cloud Laundry and Dry Cleaners. Later she worked at Fingerhut as a file clerk, Shopko West as a cashier, and most recently at MicroBioLogics, starting in 1982 until the present.  She loved planning family reunions and through many years of extensive genealogy research of her mother and father’s respective families, she met many relatives she hadn’t really known before that.  Hobbies included reading, needlework, crafts, flower gardening, and singing karaoke with her friends.  Vi also really enjoyed going to the Minnesota Twins games and North Star Hockey games with her son.  Vi also enjoyed teaching Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School at Faith Lutheran Church and Redeemer Lutheran Church.Viola is survived by her son, Brian of St. Cloud, sisters Arlie James of Coon Rapids, Marion (Jim) Miller, of St. Cloud, and twin brothers Dale W. (Darlene) of Becker and Delbert N. of Sauk Rapids.  Also many dear and fun friends, nieces, nephews and cousins.Viola was preceded in death by her parents, brother Vernon, infant brother Albert, Dick, and one sister, Betty.Vi would like to particularly thank Pastor Bruce Timm, Deaconess Kimberly, and Pastor Haake, for their much appreciated visits throughout her illness.
