Services celebrating the life of William (Bill) LaVoi, age 82 of St. Cloud, will be 1:00 PM, Tuesday, September 21 at the Kimball Church of Christ, 241 State Highway 55, in Kimball. Burial will be in the Brandsvold Cemetery in Fosston. Bill died Thursday at his home, surrounded by his family. There will be a visitation from 4-8:00 PM Monday at the Miller-Carlin Funeral Home in St. Cloud and again after 12:00 noon on Tuesday at the church in Kimball. A second memorial service will be held at 2:00 on Saturday, September 25, at Calvary Free Lutheran Church in Fosston, MN.Bill was born July 1, 1928 in Fosston, MN to William and Violet (Thayer) LaVoi. He grew up in Fosston and married Mavis Fjerstad on July 29, 1946 in Bagley, MN. Bill and Mavis celebrated 64 years of marriage. The couple moved to St. Cloud in 1963. Bill worked as a truck driver and maintenance person at Phillips Iron before he retired in 1991. Bill’s love of the outdoors came at an early age. He hunted and fished most of his life. Whether it was deer, pheasant, grouse, water fowl or fishing, you could find him there on opening day. After Bill retired, golf became a big part of his life. His summers were mostly spent up north at the hunting shack, where he golfed in the Northwest Senior Tour. One of Bill’s proudest moments was this summer, golfing with all six of his sons. Bill loved watching his grandchildren participate in everything from dance recitals to various sports and everything in between. He was usually there to watch and cheer. He was a member of the St. Cloud Church of Christ.Bill is survived by his wife, Mavis, St. Cloud; his children, Mike (Kathy) LaVoi, Fosston; Tim LaVoi, Sauk Rapids; Patti (Herman) Gangl, St. Joseph; Terry (Paula) LaVoi, Ortonville; Libby (Mike) Meierhofer, Irving, TX; Kathy (Mike) Niehaus, St. Cloud; Kevin (Judy) LaVoi, Becker; Corey LaVoi, St. Louis, MO; Sally (George) Volkert, Sauk Rapids; Dave (Marty) LaVoi, St. Augusta; his sister, Faye Hedin, Clearbrook; 37 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.Bill is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Francis and Thomas LaVoi.
